"Emperor of China; and a certain other order for the appointment of a Court with Criminal and Admiralty Jurisdiction for the trial of offences committed by British subjects within the dominions of the Emperor of China, and the Ports and Harbours, and on the High Seas within one hundred Miles of the Coast of China, to be holden at Canton, or such other place or places in China as may from time to time be appointed by Her Majesty: And whereas in pursuance of the provisions of the above recited Act, Her Majesty was pleased on the 4th day of August 1843, to issue by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, a certain Order in Council, declaring that the Court of Justice as aforesaid should be held in the Island of Hong Kong for the purposes aforesaid,
and was further pleased on the 24th day of February 1843, to issue with the like advice a certain other order prohibiting Her Majesty's subjects from resorting for the purposes of Trade to any other Ports in the dominions of the Emperor of China than those specified in the said Order: And whereas by another Act made and passed in the session of Parliament holden in the 6th and 7th years of Her Majesty's reign, intituled "The better Government of Her Majesty's subjects resorting to China," it is amongst other things enacted that it shall be lawful for Her Majesty by any Commission or Commissions under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom, or by any instructions under Her Majesty's Signet and Sign Manual accompanying and referred to in any such Commission or Commissions, to authorize the Superintendent of the Trade of Her Majesty's subjects
